Why I Started The After Loss Company—and What I Want You to Know if You’re Grieving

Why I Started The After Loss Company™—and What I Want You to Know if You’re Grieving

Losing my husband unexpectedly at the age of 39 wasn’t just devastating—it was life-altering in every conceivable way. Overnight, I was thrust into an emotional storm compounded by an overwhelming number of practical tasks and decisions. While grieving, I faced countless logistical nightmares, administrative chaos, and an exhausting list of responsibilities that no one ever truly prepares you for.

In navigating my own grief, I quickly realized that meaningful, practical, compassionate help was scarce. Yes, there were plenty of condolences and gestures, but tangible support that addressed the real-world chaos of loss was rare. That's exactly why I founded The After Loss Company™.

My Mission—Clear, Practical, Compassionate Help

At The After Loss Company™, my mission is simple yet powerful: to provide calm, competent, practical support to individuals and families navigating life after loss. In my own way, I understand deeply the overwhelm of grief and logistical burden that comes afterward. My goal is to ease this burden, not by minimizing grief—because grief isn’t something you move past—but by providing clarity, order, and real help that allows you to keep going.

What I Want You to Know if You’re Grieving

  1. You’re Not Alone. Grief can feel profoundly isolating. I promise you’re not alone. There are others, myself included, who understand deeply and personally what you’re going through.

  2. It’s Okay to Ask for Help. Asking for help isn’t weakness—it’s strength. Support is crucial in navigating the overwhelming tasks and decisions following loss.

  3. Grief Has No Timeline. Your grief is valid, however it looks, and however long it lasts. You deserve patience and compassion from others, and most importantly, from yourself.

  4. Practical Support Matters. Emotional support is critical, but so is practical assistance. Handling logistics, administrative tasks, or even daily chores can feel impossible when grieving. It’s okay—and often necessary—to delegate these tasks to capable hands.

  5. Connection Can Be Lifesaving. Grief can be heavy, but it becomes more bearable when shared with others who truly get it. Whether through peer support, community groups, or quiet one-on-one conversations, finding even one person who understands can make a world of difference. If you’re not sure where to begin, I’m happy to point you toward resources, networks, or even introduce you to others navigating loss. Reach out—we’ll help you find your people.
